This way you can see for example where you would land if you jump down. You can move the screen a little bit by looking up or down for a while. This needs some training (you have to repeat the attack) for the right attack speed, but if you can master it then you can avoid most of the attack patterns from many enemies. Sometimes it is easier to attack an enemy from above by attacking down and then bouncing up again. This way you also will be able to evade nastier enemies like bigger musrooms or mantis warriors. If you want to jump over an enemy, don't forget your dash ability. Until then it's sometimes better to hit an enemy one or two times and then retreat.
